Do I need a database for my site?
By Dexter Zafra

If your web site require constant updates and feeding of information, a database is the solution. In short, this applies to web sites that handle member registration, article directory, and other functions as well. Take a look at Ex-designz, it uses database for its content management. Not only can a database provide easier access to information, it also automates most of your daily tasks. For example, running an article and directory link requires massive amount of efforts in updating, hit counting and adding new records. This is where the database play.

You can build a database driven site if you know a little about programming. It is mostly hard work with tons of programming to do and not difficult as long as you have an adequate level of programming background. For those who are determined to give it a shot, there are many online forums that offer helpful tips and support in building a database driven site.

Choosing Your Databases and Server-Side Script.

This is the most important part. Choose the server-script that you are familiar with. Pick the right database. There are many databases to choose from for your web site- SQL server, Access and MySql are the more popular ones. Each database has its own strengths and limitations.

A popular choice of database is MySql which is also an open source and most of all, it won't cost you a furtune.
